How to move users back to the "applied" status

Prefinery makes use of statuses to help you manage the flow of users from the time they join your campaign to eventually being an active user of your product/service.

While some status changes are reversible, there are some that aren't.

From invited back to applied

In a pre-launch waitlist campaign, as you start inviting waitlisted users to use your product/service their status changes from applied to invited. Depending on how you've setup the invitation experience, this could mean that the user would've been sent, received and/or opened the invitation email, claimed their invite code, and started using your beta.

For that reason, it is NOT possible nor recommended to move the users back to the applied status after having invited them. It can be confusing for users because they would have been notified about their invitation and then you would be revoking it.

As a one-time courtesy for perhaps accidentally inviting users if you're on one of our paid plans, you can write our support a request that we move the users back to the applied status. Our support will work with you on the request.

From suspended back to applied

A user will automatically be suspended if any of your campaign emails sent to them results in a hard bounce or a spam complaint. Users can also be manually suspended if you need to via dashboard UI and API

When a user is suspended, email delivery and social sharing via this user's referral link is disabled, and any existing shares or referrals earned are not counted.

In nearly all cases, you don't want to unsuspend users that were automatically suspended. Doing so will only result in potentially attempting to send them more emails which will increase your spam/bounce rates

Below are exceptions though where you may need to unsuspend a user:

  • User has reached out telling you that they previously had an issue with receiving emails (hard bounce, false spam filtering, etc.) which has now been fixed
  • User was accidentally suspended in error by you, a member of your team, or an incorrectly set up system on your end

Considering the above-listed cases, here are ways to unsuspend users: How to Unsuspend a User

From active back to applied

If a user is activated by mistake, you can revert them back to their previous status by using any of the methods listed here: How to undo user activation
