Disable the IP Address Geolocation Feature

If you don't want us to gather or store location data about your users, you can disable the IP Address Geolocation feature in your project settings.

What is geolocation data?

Geolocation data includes city, state/region, postal code and country.

Where does the geolocation data come from?

Our hosting provider, Amazon Web Services, automatically provides geolocation data for every incoming request in the form of headers. This means that in most cases, we do not share your customers' IP address with a third-party sub-processor in order to obtain geolocation data.

The exception to the above is if you add users to your project by using our REST API and you provide their IP address in the payload you send to us. In this case, we geolocate the IP address by querying a third party service called MaxMind. Given a user's IP address, MaxMind will return publicly available location data.

How to disable IP address geolocation?

If you don't want us to gather and store location data about your customers or don't want us to share end user information with a third party such as MaxMind, you can disable the IP Address Geolocation feature in your project settings by navigating to Settings > General and unchecking the Enable IP Address Geolocation option.
